U.S. Representative Elaine Luria (VA-02) visited Fairbanks Morse at its Norfolk service center to see firsthand the skilled men and women at work contributing critical parts to U.S. Navy ships. Fairbanks Morse manufactures fuel-efficient engines for the U.S. Navy amphibious warship and aircraft carrier programs.
“It was a pleasure to visit Fairbanks Morse to personally witness the incredible work done by these hardworking employees towards ensuring the readiness of critical Navy assets,” said Representative Luria.
Fairbanks Morse engines are on Nimitz-class and Ford-class aircraft carriers, including the recently christened John F. Kennedy (CVN 79). In addition, Fairbanks Morse has provided engines for several classes of U.S. Navy amphibious warships, including the San Antonio-class, the Wasp-class and the America-class.
Currently, 377 aircraft carrier suppliers in Virginia contribute more than $1.5 billion worth of parts and services for the aircraft carrier program over the past five years. Amphibious warship suppliers in Virginia contribute more than $175 million worth of parts and services for the amphibious warship construction program in the state.
During her tour, Congresswoman Luria met with employees at the facility to discuss the unique skills they contribute to the industrial base that supplies parts to the U.S. Navy amphibious warship and aircraft carrier programs.
