At Fairbanks Morse, community is at the core of who we are. Giving back to those in need is so immensely important and a huge part of our culture, and not just during the holiday season! We give our employees the opportunity to contribute to our local community year-round. By doing so, we help create a vibrant culture that promotes a positive, heartfelt environment that is touched by all who participate. Check out some of our good work in 2019!
To kick-off the year of giving, FM donated to various KANDU events in February. KANDU is a company that promotes and provides opportunities within the community that offer individuals with disabilities the opportunity to further their independence. In 1961, a small group of parents and supportive community leaders met to find ways to meet the employment needs of their sons and daughters with disabilities. By 1964, KANDU obtained its first outsourced work contracts from Parker Pen and American Baton companies. Over the years, KANDU has experienced tremendous growth and today.
March was a big month for Fairbanks Morse donations. We donated to seven different organizations throughout the month! One of the organizations was the Green County Family YWCA to be their 2019 National Gymnastics Championships Sponsor. Another was to the Beloit Fire Department for fire safety materials for school children in Beloit. A third donation was to the Beloit Bombers baseball team. The money donated helps keep the costs down for uniforms, equipment, YMCA summer baseball fees, and travel tournament fees for the children.
During April, Fairbanks Morse granted numerous donations. Meals on Wheels, Stateline Boys and Girls Club, Rock River Valley Blood Center, and the Lego Robotics STEM group were some of the most recent recipients. Along with the donations, Fairbanks Morse had the unique opportunity to support Zach Olson, a Wisconsin-based 19-year-old with terminal brain cancer, and his family. Hundreds of individuals, including a few Fairbanks Morse employees, came together from all over the country to make Zach’s dream a reality—to be a part of a group motorcycle ride.
In the month of May, Fairbanks had the opportunity to donate to the Evansville Home Talent Baseball Club Inc. as a sponsor for their 2019 season. We also gave to the Stateline Boys and Girls Clubs for their 44th Annual Golf Play Day at The Beloit Club. Along with that, Fairbanks Morse donated to the Big Brothers Big Sisters of South-Central Wisconsin for the Golf for Kids’ Sake event.
From May 31st to June 7th, Fairbanks Morse hosted a food drive. Employees of Fairbanks Morse collected and brought in enough food and toiletry items for multiple families of Merrill Elementary here in Beloit! The photo here highlights some FM employees delivering these items to the children.
In the month of July, we granted numerous donations. Our first donation was to the Beloit Regional Hospice for their Doves & Diamonds Gala. Second, we donated to the South Beloit Firefighters Association for their Annual Corn Broil to raise money for training, equipment, and their facilities. Third, we donated to Merrill Elementary School in Beloit, WI to go toward uniform shirts for all of the students for the upcoming school year!
We participated in the annual Goodwill Donation Drive in September. Bringing in 583 pounds of goods for charity, we were proud to donate 170 pounds more than we did in 2018! Employees donated items like clothing, household items, and toys.
Some of our employees are heavily involved at Merrill Elementary School. For some, their children attend the school and others received the Wisconsin Association School Board (WASB) Business Honor Roll Certificate for their service. This past Thanksgiving, Fairbanks Morse supported them by raising money to purchase Thanksgiving turkeys for school families in need. Fairbanks Morse donated $1,935.00 and EnPro Industries matched the contribution bringing the total to $3,870.00, which provided 100 turkeys and 50 full meals to Merrill Elementary School families ensuring everyone could have a happy holiday.
Continuing with the holiday spirit, in December we chose to work with RWCFS Early Headstart and Merrill Elementary school tohost an Angel Tree. Through the Angel Tree program provides new clothing and toys for children of families in need through the support of generous donors. Angel Trees are decorated with numbered paper angel tags with the first name, age and gender of a child in need of gifts. Fairbanks Morse employees helped make sure that over 50 children were able to wake-up to gift on Christmas morning.
