Welin Lambie Ltd is a leading UK based designer, manufacturer and service provider of Davits, winches and lifting appliances for the global marine and offshore industry. Founded in 1901, but welcomed into the Fairbanks Morse Defense family in 2021, Welin Lambie has proudly played its part in supporting the UK economy and UK supply chain by exporting up to 90% of its products.
By applying hard-earned engineering expertise and customer service commitment, Welin Lambie can satisfy the complex requirements for high performance davits, standard or bespoke, cradle to grave - certified to military standards for Shock, EMI and Vibration set out by some of the long-term international partners/customers.
The engineering excellence caught the attention of defense contractor Fairbanks Morse Defense which led to the acquisition of Welin Lambie 2021. Today, they stand strong within the FMD family, solidly representing their international arm of the business beyond solely davits.

We have the experience and expertise needed to meet the rigorous requirements for military davit applications. The mission requirements for both combatant and non combatant platforms in the service of their respective countries have all seen a dramatic increase in the need to launch and recover small boats in ever increasing support roles.

COMMERCIAL DAVITS
We offer a comprehensive range of davit systems for commercial / merchant marine applications. The davits are designed to minimize the installation impact and are supplied as complete factory tested units. We offer both a standard range of davit systems and opportunities to have a standard davit modified or custom designed for specific applications.
Our History
A Tradition of Excellence
Welin Lambie was established in 1901 and the tradition of innovation and quality continues. Early on, the “Welin Quadrant” davit became the industry standard with more than 4,000 units sold. Welin Lambie davits are synonymous with ships that have made maritime history such as the QEII, Royal Yacht Britannia, and Titanic. The introduction of the inclined trackway davit paved the way for the use of larger lifeboats that we see today and also gave the designers the space to allow clear promenade decks on cruise ships and liners. The attention to detail and first class engineering have been in place for more than 100 years, and will continue as we lead the world in davit technology.

OEM / Services / Training
Welin Lambie offers worldwide support for parts, service and training for your Welin Lambie davit system. Conducted under the same ISO quality system as the manufacture of new davits, only Welin Lambie and Welin Lambie Service Partners are qualified to perform service and provide genuine spare parts.
Factory trained technicians are certified to carry out specific service duties with full distance factory support. We offer planned maintenance programs and operator / maintainer training, both on site and at our factory. Service personnel are certified to conduct annual inspections in accordance with IMO 1206 resolution.
Refurbishment
Welin Lambie davits are designed and manufactured to provide long and reliable service. The davit refurbishment services ensure that the davit remains in optimal condition in its original configuration giving the operators the confidence in the safety of the system and approval agencies the confidence to certify the davit for continued and extended use.
Welin Lambie offers three levels of davit refurbishment services:
- On site pre-refurbishment inspection
- On site refurbishment support
- Complete factory refurbishment
Certification
Welin Lambie’s ISO 9001:2015 accreditation is both current and integrated into all facets of our design engineering and manufacturing. We are accredited under the ABS approval program and offer davit systems and davit components under all other major international recognised approval authorities including Lloyds register / DNV GL / Marine Equipment Directive and other reputable approval agencies on request.
